Some of have requested for the translations to my old Scottish sayings so here they are...
Lang may yer lum reek! – May you live long and stay well.
Gie it laldy. – Do something with gusto.
Whit’s fur ye’ll no go by ye! - What’s meant to happen will happen.
Plus a few extras for your entertainment...
Dinnae teach yer Granny tae suck eggs! – Don’t try to teach someone something they already know.
Haud yer wheesht! – Be quiet.
I’m fair puckled! – I’m short of breath.
I am sure the Jefferies and the Kingstons will have fun with these and their wonderful Scottish impersonations.
So return soon my fellow friends of my blog or should I say...
Haste Ye Back
Love the Edinburgh trip. Just back from Whanga so back to the computer. What an awesome time you had, the weather looked perfect and your family take great photo shots, the old man included. Don't you just love the scenery whether it's England or Scotland. Sarah & Aaron say Edinburgh was definitely a highlight. Who would have thought you would have your OE experience with 3 children in tow! Go the Jefferies!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff you Guys 'n Girls. History comes alive once you step out of NZ. Now you will appreciate the very broad accent when you get to Cramlington - just across the boarder! Great reading Rebecca and the kids are obviously enjoying it all
